Congratulations to Daniela Nichitean
19 years old, Arizona
Awarded as a 2009 Outstanding Young Leader

Read the National Press Release announcing FosterClub's 100 Outstanding Young Leaders

Entering the foster care system at the age of 13, in five different care placements, and experiencing frequent caseworker changes has resulted in Daniela’s very high level of resilience. This resilience, or ability to bounce back, has helped her to not only be successful but to also become a leader in advocating for other foster youth in the state of Arizona.

Daniela’s leadership experience is demonstrated by her involvement in her local youth advisory board. For three years Daniela acted as president of the Maricopa County Youth Advisory Board, as well as a member of the state-wide youth board.

Being so dedicated to improving lives for youth in care has led Daniela to other opportunities, including attending Arizona youth conferences, presenting at the Sixth Annual Public Defender Association Conference, and speaking at the 2008 California Youth Conference.

Daniela stays very busy with advocating for the system, but also finds time for several hobbies. She enjoys to read, and is a music lover extraordinaire. Daniela also loves to simply color. She says, “It helps me forget about everything that is going on in my life and just be at peace with myself.”
